V-rings – axial seals
A V-ring is a flexible axial seal mounted directly on the shaft, which rotates with it and presses the sealing lip against a static counterface – such as a bearing ring, housing, or a dedicated thrust washer. Its role is bidirectional, as it protects the bearing against the ingress of external contamination and retains the lubricant inside. For this reason, V-ring sealing rings are one of the most frequently used protective components in heavy industry, agriculture, papermaking, power engineering, and production machinery drives. What sets the V-ring slinger seal apart?
The mechanics of its operation are specific and distinguish this component from a classic radial shaft seal (simmerring). The body of the V-ring seal is manufactured from an elastomer in a single piece. It consists of a cylindrical body, a flexible hinge part, and a thin, self-accommodating lip. The ring rotates with the shaft, and centrifugal force flings contaminants away from the sealing zone. Hence the common name "slinger seal."
In practice, this provides three concrete benefits:
-
minimal frictional drag compared to classic contact seals;
-
tolerance for shaft misalignments;
-
simple installation without the need for press-fitting – the ring stretches and snaps onto the shaft.
What V-ring types are available in the e-marat store?
In our offer, you will find V-ring sealing rings in three basic design types, which differ in geometry and intended application.
-
Type A (VA) is the basic and most widely used variant. It performs well in typical industrial applications under moderate loads and rotational speeds. This specific geometry dominates catalogs and is usually the starting point for selection.
-
Type S (VS) features a more massive body and a thicker sealing lip. It is used where operating conditions are more demanding – higher mounting tension, exposure to solid contaminants, or operation on larger shaft diameters.
-
Type L (VL) is a narrow design engineered for limited mounting spaces. It functions effectively as a secondary seal behind a radial shaft seal – acting as a first-contact protective barrier against the environment.

Rubber V-rings – materials and chemical resistance
The standard material of execution is a universal elastomer resistant to mineral oils, lubricating greases, and most typical industrial contaminants, which performs well within a range of approximately -40°C to +100°C.
For applications involving higher temperatures or aggressive chemicals (contact with water vapor, acids, ozone), manufacturers utilize an elastomer with a higher temperature range, up to +200°C.
The choice of material cannot be left to chance, as it should result from three variables:
-
operating temperature,
-
contact with the medium (oil, water, chemicals),
-
dust and abrasion requirements.
Applications of V-ring seals available in the e-marat store
This component most frequently works in conjunction with rolling bearings in applications where the operating environment is dirty or wet.
Typical mounting locations include:
-
electric motors and generators;
-
gear and belt drives;
-
centrifugal and rotary pumps;
-
agricultural machinery, combines, plows, harrows, chaff cutters;
-
belt and roller conveyors;
-
industrial fans and blowers.
In vertical drives, the V-ring is additionally mounted as a safeguard against downward grease leakage along the shaft, which is a frequent issue in vertical bearing arrangements.
Assortment at the e-marat store – you will find every type of V-ring seal with us!
At the e-marat store, we offer SKF brand V-rings as well as MUW series NBR rings manufactured within the MARAT group. As a result, our catalog of available variants addresses diverse needs – from premium options to well-priced maintenance replacements.
How to simplify the selection process? Correct selection comes down to two parameters: the shaft diameter and the required outside diameter of the counterface. Each standard series has its own table specifying the permissible stretch range – mounting the ring outside this range leads to a loss of lip contact force and subsequent leakage.
If you are uncertain about the type or material, please contact the e-marat technical support department. We will advise you on the selection, suggest a replacement, or help you configure a complete sealing system (V-ring + radial shaft seal working in tandem).
At the e-marat store, we also pay attention to details
The price of a V-ring in our store is set at a level adequate to its quality, depending on the diameter, design type, and material. Furthermore, it can be reduced because, as one of the few specialized stores on the market, we have prepared a Discount Club for regular orders. In addition, larger maintenance packages are negotiated individually.
We also focus on customer feedback, which is why we handle shipping quickly, safely, and on time from our warehouse, usually within 24 hours from the moment the order is placed.
Remember that a neglected V-ring allows water and dust to reach the bearing arrangement, and the cost of replacing a bearing is an order of magnitude higher than purchasing a V-ring. Therefore, order top-quality products today!
