Application and characteristics of anaerobic adhesives

In maintenance and manufacturing, anaerobic adhesive is a standard solution where connection reliability, clearance elimination, and vibration resistance are paramount. The formulation remains liquid on surfaces exposed to air and cures only within the joint interface – which facilitates assembly and the cleaning of excess material.

The most common applications include threadlocking (popularly known as screw glue), retaining bearings and sleeves, and thread sealing in pipeline systems (e.g., pneumatic and hydraulic). Filling micro-gaps improves the fit of cylindrical components, limits micro-movements, and reduces the risk of fretting and leaks.

When selecting a product, pay attention to the bond strength: low-strength and medium-strength formulations allow for disassembly with hand tools, while high-strength variants create permanent connections. In practice, surface preparation is critical: components must be clean, dry, and degreased, and full strength is usually achieved after the curing time (typically within 12–24 hours, depending on the product and gap size).
