Application and characteristics of cyanoacrylate adhesives

Cyanoacrylate adhesive is utilized in maintenance, manufacturing, and assembly for rapid bonding of small details and performing emergency repairs. It performs exceptionally well in bonding metals, rubber, wood, ceramics, glass, and many plastics, particularly where a thin bond line and short component fixture time are essential.

Bonding occurs very rapidly (often within seconds), which is why substrate preparation is of critical importance: surfaces must be dry, clean, and degreased. The best results are achieved by applying a small amount of adhesive to one surface and firmly pressing the components together. A thin layer promotes faster polymerization and high bond strength.

It is worth noting that standard CA adhesives may have limited adhesion to certain hard-to-bond plastics (e.g., PE, PP, PTFE) as well as porous materials. In applications with elevated operating temperatures, the product must be selected according to specific technological requirements, as the thermal resistance of typical cyanoacrylates is limited.
